SUBJECT: Principal's Post: FAQ Reopening Plan

February 24, 2021

Greetings Families,

On Tuesday, February 23, Superintendent Watson-Harris communicated that students would be allowed to return to face-to-face learning this month if they choose.  Families not comfortable with returning may continue with at-home digital learning.

Families choosing to return will send PK-2 students beginning Tuesday, March 9, and grades 3-5 students beginning Monday, March 15 for two days per week.

Schedule for Week 1:

Tuesday, March 9th - PreK- 2 Cohort A

Wednesday, March 10th - Independent learning day at home

Thursday, March 11th - PreK - 2 Cohort B

Friday, March 12th - All virtual

We understand that the new information has generated many questions for all families; therefore, I am providing an initial FAQ.  We will continue to communicate often to address pertinent and relevant issues.  We are excited to see our young learners face-to-face, but we respect those who feel the safest place for children is at home.

FAQ:

1.       Will there be a new Intent to Return to Face-to-Face survey?

There will not be a new survey for returning to school during the first entry period; however, a second wave of entry will occur April 29th. Prior to the second entry date, we will send a new Intent to Return.  Our ability to return to school safely was developed around the initial survey results. The teachers will send communication today asking you to verify your initial choice for the first wave of entry.

2.       Can I change my mind about returning to school?

You may always elect to return to digital home school at any time; however, you must wait until the defined entry points to choose face-to-face learning.

3.       Will my child’s teacher change?

Based on the 55% student return rate generated by the initial survey, there are only a couple of grade levels that might need to shuffle to keep a safe social distancing experience. This will be communicated by your HR teacher by Wednesday, March 3rd. Each teacher is prepared to offer hybrid (face-to-face and digital at the same time) learning. At the end of April, we will recheck amounts of students in each HR.

4.       How do I know when to send my child to school if I choose face-to-face learning?

The teachers will communicate cohort assignments on March 3rd.  Cohort A will attend on Mondays and Tuesdays while Cohort B will attend on Thursdays and Fridays.  Both cohorts will report four days per week beginning March 29. All children returning to face-to-face learning will be given an entry ticket associated with their cohort group.

5.       What is the start date for returning students?

Students in PK, kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2 will begin by cohort, two days per on Tuesday, March 9.  Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will begin on Monday, March 15 by cohort, two days per week.

6.       What is Friday, March 12?

Friday, March 12 is a half day (7:45 AM – 11:15 AM).  All students will stay home for a digital learning day.  Students WILL NOT report to the building.

7.       Will Wednesday be a live instructional day now that students have returned face-to-face?

No. Wednesday will remain an independent learning day.  Students WILL NOT report to the building.

8.       How will my child find his/her classroom?

Videos will available on our website to help guide students to the correct hall. Prior to students returning, teachers will also host a small group lesson to answer questions and help guide.

Students in PK, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 will be able to attend an open house with one parent/adult.  The sole purpose of the open house is to support students with locating their classroom.  The open house date and time will be communicated by the homeroom teacher.

9.       How do I know what my child needs for school?  How do I know traffic patterns for drop-off and pick-up?

HR teachers will be sending home supply lists next week for what students will need to bring. Maps will be posted and send out to help share arrival and dismissal traffic patterns.

10.    Will there be bus transportation?  How do I know the route?

Yes, routes will be posted on our website in the next week.

Thank you,

Mrs. Mooneyham
