The Austin Eagle Foundation needs YOU!
It is no secret that public schools in Georgia are dangerously underfunded.
As hard as it is to believe, Austin Elementary receives only enough money from DeKalb County to pay our incredible teachers and staff, to keep our school clean, and for basic academic programming.
No other programs, activities or events are funded by your tax dollars!
It costs an average of more than $250 per student over and above this budget to run our school. This is why we are asking for parents to contribute a minimum of $250 per child to the Austin Eagle Foundation every school year.
WHY JOIN THE FOUNDATION?
Austin Elementary is the 2018 recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Award and has received the Greatest Gains Platinum Award in both 2015 and 2016, as well as the Highest Performing Platinum Award in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 making it one of the top performing schools in Georgia!
Many of the amazing initiatives described below have led to the school’s continued growth and performance:
- To provide necessary academic programs and other initiatives - these include: school-wide reading, writing, and math programs, running the STEM lab, Orton-Gillingham training for our teachers to better equip our students with the reading skills they need to succeed, and paraprofessionals to help support all classrooms. These programs and initiatives mentioned above require $175,000 per year ABOVE the budget we receive from DeKalb County (roughly $250 per child). Schools that receive Title I funding (based on the percentage of students that receive free and reduced lunch) can afford these programs. Austin receives no such funding because of our population. If our community does not provide the funding for these programs, critical learning initiatives have to be cut.
- A thriving public school enhances the community. Not only is it good for the morale and community spirit, it is a significant driver of home values. Based on Austin's amazing reputation, young families across the metro Atlanta region seek to find homes in this district. Without proper funding from the community, the school could no longer afford to provide the same educational benefits to our children of Dunwoody.
- We're all in this together. With our stellar team of administrators and teachers leading our school, we are poised for tremendous growth both in numbers and achievement. But if we can't pull together to fund our current programs AND prepare for additional needs in the future, the path becomes less clear.
As you can see, your support is vital to the strong community Austin has helped establish. With your support, we can maintain the high level of academic achievement Austin students have enjoyed for years – and reach even higher.
While some might question the amount, it is the true cost of the programs our children need on a daily basis. We write similar checks for youth sports, music lessons, dance, monthly gym memberships and/or many other after-school activities; please consider investing in our children’s education.
We are again asking for a minimum donation of $250 per student; this amount is less than the actual cost of supplementing the budget provided by Dekalb County. We thank you for your consideration and appreciate anything you are able to give.
On behalf of the families of Austin and the greater Dunwoody community, thank you for doing your part to ensure a bright future for our children.
